Toby Massenburg: Max 30 Details and Review

Max 30 , just released in October of 2011, is the premiere workout of newcomer fitness trainer Toby Massenburg. Max 30 is designed to give you the maximum workout in the minimum amount of time. The DVD includes three focused workouts – Max Sculpt, Max Cardio and Max Core – each accessible individually from the main menu. Toby is joined by two background exercisers. For the Sculpt workout you will need to two sets of dumbbells – medium and heavy; for the cardio workout you will need a step. You will also need to have water on hand and an exercise mat for te core workout depending on your workout surface.

Max 30 – Sculpt begins with a brief warm-up designed to gradually raise the heart rate, wake up the body and get the body ready to move. Once the warm-up is complete, the rest of the workout is built around six blocks of timed drills. The exercises within each drill are performed for sixty seconds and each block is approximately seven minutes long. Each of the blocks is set up to include a base lower body exercise followed by a MAX version of the exercise. This is then followed by a base upper body move followed by a MAX upper body move. Each of the exercises is performed for thirty seconds. For the final sixty seconds, Toby combines the base lower body and upper body move for thirty seconds followed by a combination of the MAX lower and upper body move. In between, Toby offers a thirty second rest while he sets up and demonstrates the upcoming exercise. The workout concludes with a cooldown and stretch.

Max 30 – Cardio is set up in a similar fashion to the Max Sculpt workout. The workout begins with a brief followed by six blocks of timed cardio drills. Toby uses a step to amp up the intensity in the cardio workout. Each block consists of of thirty seconds of a base move followed by a MAX move; then he introduces a new base move and MAX move. He then combines the two base moves for thirty seconds followed by the two MAX moves to complete the block. The workout concludes with a well-deserved cool down and stretch segment. Also included on the DVD is a bonus ten minute core routine that is a great add-on to the cardio or sculpt workout.

Max 30 is an efficient time-saving workout with three great workouts to choose from. builds Each of the blocks will challenge your strength, endurance and cardio capacity throughout the workout. Toby Massenburg does an excellent job leading the workout, is a motivating instructor, with a great on-screen presence. He does a great job cuing the workout and demonstrating the move before the drill begins. Toby is also an encouraging instructor offering motivation and support when you need it the most. Toby, who you may recognize as a background exerciser from many Paul Katami and Patrick Goudeau workouts, made it to the head of the class and to the top shelf of my workout collection; I can’t wait for more workouts from him in the future.
