Review: Rockin Models

Grace Lazenby, 2010

This 65 minute “yoga, ballet with a dash of burlesque” workout is led by Grace with 4 background exercisers. Equipment required is a body bar (or chair), small ball, and a towel. The dvd is chaptered exceptionally well so you can easily pick which chapters you want to do.  This workout features the BEST set I have seen to date (thats a lot of competition!). They work out in a studio set which will occasionally merge with ocean water waving across the ground and they split the screens to show LA area scenery (beaches, palm trees, ocean, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood, night skyline, etc). The music is beyond awesome and really makes you want to move.

Yoga: This is a nice high energy, fast moving, yoga routine that includes flowing movements, vinyasa, down dog, up dog, warrior variations, crescent pose all blended into a flowing & energizing yoga workout.  The yoga postures & flows are combined in a unique way to create a fun fresh yoga routine.

Barre: This barre work includes a FUN “standing burlesque routine.” Using a body bar Grace performs leg sweeps, arabasque, quad extensions, hip shifts, lots of great pliet variations, rising & lowering to deep pliets and she adds in some great hip shifts to really hit those obliques. You then place a small ball between your upper thighs to really amp up the intensity and go through a squat series, hip shifts, inner thigh squeeze series, and more pliets. This is a great lower body burner!

Lower Body Floor: This section will really hit those glutes & thighs! Exercises include: clam leg lifts, leg shoot outs, lying kick variations, leg rotations, double and single leg extensions in V sit, scissor kick combos, and the likes. Grace combines these exercises in fun routines to really keep the work fresh, fun, & effective.

Core: Grace utilizes a towel to enhance the core work and to stabilize the neck. Lying core work includes: C curve pulses, roll up-sit ups, teaser, small scissors, seated attitude, oblique rows, and bridge kicks. I love the use of the towel to support the neck- really helps with neck tension and proper alignment.

I would rate this a solid intermediate workout that could easily be modified to suit all fitness levels. It really targets the core and lower body in a fun but effective way. The production values & music are ROCKIN! Grace is a fabulous instructor that provides excellent form pointers and her cuing is spot on. I look forward to more workouts from her in the future.

The Belles give this workout 4 bicpes up!
