Today’s Review: Slim Sculpt
Ellen Barrett, 2007

Ellen leads this pilates & light weight strength training fusion w/o in a cute open studio w/ a stage in the background. She works out with 2 b/g exercisers one of which provides beginner options. You will need a set of light weight dumbbells for this workout. The workout is 45 minutes long, broken down into 30 minutes of standing work and 15 minutes of floor work.

This is the 3rd Ellen w/o Ive tried- and while I enjoyed them all- I think this is my favorite!!! It is a gentler workout but my heart rate was definitely elevated and I could feel my muscles being worked. Many of the exercises combine strength work with stretching and calisthenics.

Standing Exercises Include: side step -outer thigh lift w/ a side arm raise, weighted arm circles, travel pliets w/ butterfly arms, side step-glute raise- & butterfly arms, raise 1 weight & drop the other to the side (hits obliques), quick overhead press, travelling pliets with wide circle arms, overhead tricep work, pilates chest expansion & relovette, pulsing lunges w/ static arm holds, backstroke, pulsing side lunges w/ diagonal pulley arms, etc.

Floor Exercises Include: C-curve twists, single leg stretch, ballet criss cross, side knee drops adding in a single and a double leg kick, roll up prep to full roll up, single leg bridge, and concludes with a  stretch.

I rate this a solid beginner workout that is really suitable for all fitness levels.  Ellen is a fantastic lead and provides excellent cuing & form advice. She reminds you to squeeze your glutes & to hold your core muscles tight when doing upper body work to really get the maximum effect of the workout. Her demeanor and energy are great- she is a very likable instructors! I received this dvd to review.
