After nearly two years of blogging, I have had the great pleasure of taking several workouts for a test drive and providing readers with detailed reviews. With one year ending and a new one beginning I thought I would share my top ten favorite workouts reviewed in 2011.
Favorite Cardio Interval Workout
–
Breathless Body by Amy Dixon
takes the spot as my top pick. Breathless Body is a fun, cardiovascular, high energy, high intensity Tabata-inspired interval workout. This drill based interval cardio workout is designed to melt fat, incinerate calories, test your endurance and leave you breathless. The workout is very athletic in nature with moves that are easy to follow yet offer a challenge.
Favorite Metabolic Workout
–
Patrick Goudeau’s Lean Hot Body
is a fun, super-intense, challenging interval workout.
Lean Hot Body
is a tough sixty minute interval workout that couples intense compound strength moves with explosive heart-pumping cardio bursts. The workout moves quickly but the fun high energy music that gets you moving and Patrick’s contagious energy keeps you going. Look for new workouts from Patrick Goudeau in 2012.
Favorite Newcomer Workout
–
Toby Massenburg
with his break-out hit
Max30
is my pick for favorite newcomer workout. Max30 is an efficient time-saving workout with three great workouts to choose from. Max30 will challenge your strength, endurance and cardio capacity throughout the workout. Honorable Mention in this category goes to Mike Donavanik with his workout
Extreme Burn
: Total Body Interval Training – stay tuned for a review of his new workout.
Favorite Workout System – PeakFit Challenge created by Michelle Dozois and, her fitness pro husband, Phil Dozois. Designed to get your body in Peak condition, the system consists of an exercise and nutrition program to be completed over an eight-week period. The series uses metabolic interval training, a carefully sequenced combination of strength training and high-intensity cardio circuits, to jumpstart your metabolism and torch calories. Stay tuned for new Peak workouts from Michelle Dozois in 2012.
Favorite Premiere Series
– Though not a newcomer to the exercise DVD scene with workouts for 10 Minute Solution, ExerciseTV and Women’s Health, Jessica Smith premieres her new 10 Pounds Down Series in 2011 and is my top pick for best premiere series. Look for more workouts and more reviews from her 10 Pounds Down series in 2012.
Favorite Bootcamp Workout
–
Paul Katami’s Hollywood Bootcamp 4×4
makes the list as my favorite bootcamp workout of 2011. Hollywood Bootcamp 4×4 is an advanced workout designed to burn calories, build endurance, sculpt muscles and take your fitness ability to the level. It is an intense circuit workout that will challenge any exerciser.
Favorite Yoga Workout
– Jeanette Jenkins’ Power Yoga is a well-rounded workout that develops the mind, body and spirit. The workout is an excellent combination of flowing yoga poses as well as static holds of several the poses to work on strength, endurance and flexibility.
Favorite Kettlebell System
–
Kettlebody by Brook
is a collection of three complete workouts –
Cardio Kettlebell
,
Yoga Burn
and
Bell Body Sculpt
– in one great package. Designed to be used as one complete system, the workouts should be done sequentially. Led by instructor
Brook Benten
,
each of the workouts provides an intense workout that will challenge even the most advanced exerciser. The program, followed for eight weeks, and accompanied by a sound nutrition plan, is designed to burn fat, sculpt muscles and give you a kettlebell body.
Brook Benten
is an engaging lead, has a great personality and is extremely motivating. Having had the pleasure of meeting Brook in person makes the list as my favorite blogging moment of 2011. Honorable mention in this category goes to Reinhart Kettlebell System (RKS) – stay tuned for reviews of these workouts.
Favorite Surprise Workout
– With a workout named
Train2Cheer
, I wasn’t expecting much and since I wasn’t “training to cheer” I put off reviewing this workout for awhile. Big mistake! Stacey DelPreore’s Train2Cheer makes the list of my favorite “surprise” workout of 2011. With a fabulous soundtrack and fun and motivating instructor, Train2Cheer provides an enjoyable and energetic workout that is designed to increase cardio and muscular endurance.
Favorite Comeback Workout
– After having two kids and taking a break, Tracey Staehle comes back strong with Total Body Bootcamp. The set includes six workouts on two DVDs you get cardio, strength, core work and a whole lot of motivation. Tracey & Dustin will keep you motivated and engaged and make you learn to love intensity not duration. The set includes Total Body Bootcamp Metabolic Conditioning DVD (3 workouts) and Total Body Bootcamp Strength DVD (3 workouts). Each DVD offers multiple workout options, circuit style workouts, Tabata drills and finishers sequenced to allow for maximum effort & calorie burn.
And there you have it, my top ten picks of 2011. Fortunately, there aren’t any “misses” to report. Well, except for one. The biggest upset in 2011 – the demise of ExerciseTV. After providing viewers with FREE streaming workouts on their website, OnDemand workouts on cable and affordably priced workouts in their webstore, ExerciseTV closed their doors in December of 2011. Had it not been for ExerciseTV, I would never have been introduced to so many FABULOUS instructors, many of which are on my top ten list.
